The CSI Permanent Set Apparatus is used to apply tension and stretch, unstressed rubber specimens. Six samples may be tensioned simultaneously. This test applies to vulcanized thermoset rubbers and thermoplastic elastomers.
Rubber products must withstand tensile forces for adequate performance in certain applications. This test method allows the measurement of such tensile properties. Tensile properties may or may not directly relate to the end use performance of the product because of the wide range of performance requirements in actual use.
The tensile properties of rubber depend both on the material and conditions of test, such as extension rate, temperature, humidity, specimen geometry, and environmental or mechanical preconditioning; therefore, rubbers should be compared only when tested under the same conditions.
Temperature and rate of extension may have significant effects on tensile properties and therefore should be controlled. These effects will vary depending on the type of rubber being tested. This instrument includes: Tabletop design.
