The CSI Dry Sand/Rubber Wheel Abrasion Tester is used for the determination of resistance to scratching of metallic materials based on volume loss of material under the specified conditions of the test procedure.
The apparatus includes a sheet metal protected enclosure housing a motorized rubber-lined wheel rotating against the test sample which is in turn compression-loaded towards the wheel surface. Abrading sand is feed vertically down in between the contact surfaces of the wheel and sample. The sand is stored in a sand hopper above the abrasion chamber. The desired compression load is exerted on the sample by means of dead weights and a lever arm.
